Quality Bar buys its hot-rolled bars from steel mills. The hot-rolled bars are rust colored, not straight, out of round, and have a rough finish. Quality Bar's Turned Ground and Polished (TGP) finished product is incredibly straight, very round, silver colored and has an extremely smooth finish
Quality Bar peels the rust from the surface of the bar similar to the way one peels an apple. The expression, garbage in garbage out, applies to the turning process. The straighter the bar going into the peeler the better the quality coming out. Quality Bar's first step, before turning, is to pre-straighten the bar. The grinder gives the finish bars its smooth, round, fine finish. The straighter the incoming bar, the finer the finish. After turning and before grinding the bar is post straightened.
Instead of calling our product a TG&P bar it could also be called a PTP&G bar. Meaning a Pre-straightened, Turned, Post-straighten and Ground bar. This nomenclature better describes Quality Bar's process. Quality Bar also sells a T&P bar. This is a bar that is Pre-straightened, Turned, and Post straightened, but does not receive the finished grind. Grinding gives a bar better ovality, a finer finish and a much closer tolerance.
